Backing plates play an important, often overlooked role.  They need to be strong enough to handle the rotations or orbits of the machine it is attached to.  It must also have a secure mounting method to both the machine and the pad.  It should insulate the pads and surface from the heat and vibration generated by the polisher.  Finally, it needs to be flexible enough to handle the contours of a vehicle's surface. 

The Lake Country 6 Inch Flexible Backing Plate meets or exceeds all of the above requirements.  Its urethane construction is strong while maintain flexibility.  The hook and loop fastening system is actually molded into the backing plate itself for extra durability.  The urethane also serves as excellent insulation from heat and vibration.
